As you can see, the Content tab is where you enter information describing the category that you are adding. It is also where any images are uploaded, where the mode of the category is decided, what the parent category will be, and in what form with the category be visible. Below are the parameters that are only necessary if you are adding a new category page.

In this guide, we will walk you through all of the steps necessary to add a new category to your Loaded 7 store. Here is some information and items that you may need to have ready before you create your new category:

  • An image file to represent the category
  • A name picked out for the category
  • An idea as to whether this is a parent category or a sub-category to be placed inside of a parent category and which parent category it will be placed in.
  • A text content to be inserted and edited in the Content Editor.
  • A list of Meta tags, or keywords for search engines.
  • Which mode will the category be in, Category, Page, Link-to or Custom Link.
  • Whether the category will be active now, or later.
  • What type of visibility you want the category to have.

Category Pages

Categories Links in Loaded 7 are manageable options that take you to Category, Product or Information pages and Links throughout the site. Managing these features allows you to determine where and how products and information are inventoried and displayed to the customer. Categories can be arranged inside of parent or sub categories and so on, as you see fit in the management of your store.

Using Figure 1 as a guide, you’ll notice that there are 6 columns on the page:

  • Categories-titles of all content created within Loaded 7.

  • Status-whether certain content is active within your site.

  • Visibility-determines at what visibility level certain content.

  • Mode-the mode or type of content.

  • Sort Order-how content shows up on this list.

  • Action-here you can Edit, Move or Delete existing content.

When creating or editing categories you will choose one of four types of content or Modes supported by Loaded 7, as in (figure 2):

  • Category-management of store products under categories for organization.

  • Page-for text based information of a product.

  • Link To’s-links that are preloaded and supported by Loaded 7.

  • Custom Link-links that you can create and manage in addition to supported Links.

When you purchase and install Loaded 7 into your web server, you will notice that Loaded 7 comes preloaded* with sample content to help you understand the information necessary to create, edit and properly manage the content of your online store. Those examples appear in the Categories column in Figure 4, and are the following:

  • Women
  • Men
  • Specials
  • New Products
  • Information
  • Loaded 7
  • Why Our Products are Better

*You can choose to include or not include this sample content when installing your store. That way, for any test stores you might want to install you can leave the content in and for your actual store, you can leave the content out.

Add/Edit Category

Being able to add or edit categories beyond the example categories is essential to keeping your store organized. That is why we have made the process of adding or editing categories as painless as possible by grouping the minimum necessary information together. Here is how you can add a new category:

1. Starting with the Category Page under Content, click on the New Category button in the top middle of the page as in Figure 1.
Figure 1 - Add New Category Button
Figure 1 – Add New Category Button
2. You will be brought to the New Category Page as in Figure 2.
Figure 2 - New Category Page
Figure 2 – New Category Page
Using Figure 2 as a guide, you can see that information is grouped and entered into three sections or tabs. These tabs are:

  • Content – where descriptive information about the category is entered.
  • Data – information entered here helps Loaded 7 process your category request.
  • Relationships – allows you to select which categories the new category will be assigned.

You can edit your categories by clicking the content tab and making your changes in the appropriate places.

We will walk you through adding content to your new category.

  1. We will start by uploading the image that will represent the category you are adding to your online store. Either drag the image file from your file manager to the area labeled Drag and Drop, or click the Upload a File button and Loaded 7 will access your file manager so you may select the correct image file. When you select Open, a preview of the image file will appear so you may be certain that you have selected the right one.

  2. Add the category Title, this can be a full length title. You can use up to 26 characters and spaces.

  3. Add the category Nick, the shortened form of the title that will appear in the menu listing. There is enough room 21 characters and spaces.

  4. Add the listing blurb, where a short sentence describing the category will appear.

  5. Add meta keywords for search engine optimization.

To add Product Data, select the Data tab. You will see this page, as in Figure 6. Here you will enter information into the following fields:

  • Model – the manufacturer’s model number for the product.

  • MSRP – manufacturer’s suggested retail price.

  • Inventory Control – allows you to choose between adding a simple product with no variants or a multi-SKU product with variants.

  • Tax Settings – to set the tax group that the product is in, and the base price with tax.

  • Management Settings – an unsupported feature of Loaded 7.

This section lets you select which product category the product will be available in within your store. You can manage product categories in Content.

After you have chosen the category(s) that your product should be in, select Save to confirm your add.

Move New Category

Moving categories from one parent category to another within Loaded 7 is very similar to Deleting Categories. The buttons are in the same general places and instead of deleting the item from the system, it is moved to the location you specify. There are two ways to move a category, just as with Delete a category.
Move Button
Here is how to move a category using the move button.
